When in Greece…

CharSOL Grill is going to a symposium! A energy technology symposium (from Greek συμπόσιον symposion from συμπίνειν sympinein, “to drink together”) at Columbia University in New York City. From their website at http://www.cuenergysymposium.com, Columbia describes it as a gathering of the pioneers in the energy field to discuss the most pressing issues of the day. This years symposium will focus on three topics: the evolution of the grid, financing the future of energy and tomorrow’s oil and gas markets.

…Our team can’t wait! Drinking and lounging around together talking about everything solar?! Fantastic! Look at this scene of a symposium taken from an ancient Greek pot.

A female aulos-player entertains men at a symposium on this Attic red-figure bell-krater, ca. 420 BC

Just kickin’ back and enjoying the night in togas! …except for the girl, who seems to be entertaining the crowd…of all men.

Pat, I’m going with you to this symposium to tell people about our solar grill, right?
To talk about the financial benefits of not having to pay to refill a propane tank every grilling splurge, or wait needless amounts of time for coals to burn down, not to mention the toxins eliminated from being cooked into their food? Right!?!

…Cause this girl on this pot looks like she’s just entertaining the men. The caption even says, “A female aulos-player entertains men at a symposium on this Attic red-figure bell-krater, ca. 420 BC”.
Pat, will I be the only girl there?

IF when we arrive (you, me and the solar grill) and there are only men or incredibly elderly ladies there…I’ll start to suspect. And IF after we set up our station, you pull out an “aulos” for me to play…

Here, let me see if I can find a visual aide….Ah, here we go:

It’s on April 1st. I’ll be sure to keep y’all updated on how it goes. It should be fun and entertaining, to say the least.
